CHANGE OF DATE FOR PLAYGROUND BUILD

CHANGE OF DATE FOR PLAYGROUND BUILD TO SATURDAY OCTOBER 27

We are so delighted that you are volunteering with the Let Them Be Kids/Fairlea Community Playground Project!
Due to circumstances beyond our control we are moving the build date to Saturday October 27th, 2012. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause but we sincerely hope that you will come out and help us on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 build a playground for the kids!

We will continue to send you updates on the progress of the activities, as well as information you will need in preparation for the event itself.

It is going to be a great build day. Please encourage your family, friends and fellow co-workers to register as well.

FAQ’s
o        Waiver and release form-This form will be emailed to you prior to the event, please fill it out and bring the waiver with you on Saturday October 27, this will spend up the registration process and help getting you working and making a difference quicker!
o        What to wear- dress for activity, although none of the work is overly strenuous, you should be dressed for working around the “yard”, if you are painting, working on the playgrounds or any of the other  types of work... you are going to get dirty and want to dress for it...please no open toe shoes or sandals, better safe than sorry. Please bring work gloves if you have them!
o        What is the schedule for the day-You will receive a schedule for the day a week prior to the event and it will be posted on the web site as well
o        What if it rains- The project goes on rain or shine...only in a case of extreme weather would we postpone...in the unlikely event that happened we would go the following Saturday
o        When do we eat- Coffee will be served in the morning and bottled water will be available throughout the whole day. Lunch will be served from 11:30 am till 1 pm.
o        Do we still need more help-We need all the help we can get, please come with your teams from work and wear a shirt identified with the logo (if available) or anything that represents your group...that is part of the fun!
o        Any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask just click

Stay tuned for next week’s update. Again, thank you in advance for your help and your willingness to build a brighter today and a better tomorrow for the kids

Sincerely
Gabriele Esliger

Welcome to Fairlea

Welcome to Fairlea Co-Op. We are currently raising funds to replace our playground. The old one has been in dire need of repair for some time, and isn't the safe and wholesome place it needs to be for our children to grow up in. Thankfully, we have some help.

Let Them Be Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to building healthy communities by building playgrounds, skate parks and fitness parks across Canada and around the world. They are helping us find the funds we need and will MATCH US DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR on new playground equipment. For every dollar you donate (Paypal donation button on the right), is actually $2 of buying power for us.

The South East Ottawa Community Health Centre is a charitable organization dedicated to improving Ottawa neighbourhoods, and they are generously collecting our online donations and providing receipts.

What can you do? The easiest thing to do is Donate!

If you want to do a little more, Volunteer! We need lots of people, for all kinds of help. The biggest job is going to be build day (September 15th), but we also need help fundraising, organizing, tear down, etc. If you know anyone with skills who can help, get them to sign up too!

C'mon guys, it won't fix itself!

Garage Sale Followup and Dotmacracy

Thanks to everyone who participated in the garage sale last Saturday! It was a good time for everyone, and we raised quite a bit of money for the new playground. We will be having another BBQ in the near future, so stay tuned!

Tonight is the first round of the Dotmacracy for the new playground! Bring your kids up to the Common Unit (3019 Fairlea Crescent, first building on the right) to let them have their input on the new playground equipment. We will be sending the results off to the designer as soon as we have enough votes in. Let your children have their say! There will also be an option of voting for adult exercise equipment, so parents are also encouraged to come have a look at what might be possible for our community.

The raffle for the Senators hats is still ongoing! We will have the draw for these in August, so save up your money for tickets. Email fairlealtbk@gmail.com for ticket information.

We are also still looking for volunteers! If you want to help, either with the build day (September 15th) or with anything in between, click on the "Join the Effort" button to the right, and sign up!

Donations! We are now accepting donations for the new playground. Tax Receipts are available courtesy of the South East Ottawa Community Health Centre (SEOCHC) for amounts over $20.

Scrap Metal Drive! We are collecting all kinds of scrap metal, including cans, recycling cans, etc. We are taking them down to be recycled, all profits going to the kids park. Please deposit any metals in the blue bin in front of unit 15, 3019 Fairlea Cres. Cleaned and sorted preferred.

25th Anniversary Follow-up

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 25th Anniversary of the Fairlea Park Housing Co-Op! We all had a great time!

The next event we're having is the Fairlea Co-Op Community Garage Sale! June 23rd, stay tuned for details!

The afternoon started with the arrival of Officer Gary McCoy, and kicked off with food, followed by face painting and games. At 1:45 the Co-Op president stood up to announce the 25th Anniversary. She was followed by Angela Toth-Blais from Chaseo, and then , finally, our Special Announcement, the New Playground! The kids were excited and got to rope off the old playground in official police tape. As the afternoon heated up, there was a water fight, and most of the kids got soaked. Some of the adults, too!

Everyone had a great time, and just about everybody had their face painted. We're really looking forward to working with our community in the future!

We Won a New Playground!!!

We won a New Playground! Courtesy of Let Them Be Kids, a non-profit organization that focuses on building healthy communities for children and families.

The new playground will be designed with the assistance of our children, for the benefit of the Co-Op and surrounding community. We are building a fun, safe place for kids to be kids.

The new playground is being announced today amidst the 25th Anniversary Celebration for the Fairlea Park Housing Co-Op. 25 years of Co-operative living! Hooray!

The new playground build date is September 15th, so make sure to mark that day on you calendar. The park will be built with 100% volunteer labour, so make sure you sign up!

In addition to help on build day, we will need help fundraising. The more we raise, the nicer the new playground will be! If you don't have time to lend, you can always help out with a donation, or by as little as friending our Facebook Page.

Don't know if you'll have time? Keep checking back here, or visit us on Facebook to find out what we'll be doing next! This website will be updated regularly with news and events all summer long. Come on out and get involved!

We would like to thank Let Them Be Kids for choosing us as one of the communities they will be helping this year. We will be looking forward to their help throughout the months ahead with planning and organization, and at the end will match us dollar for dollar on new playground equipment!
